Hello friends today we are discuss this question, the question is -“Oh, what a burden, Lord to be the father of a grown-up daughter!”-Who is the ‘father’? Who is the ‘daughter’? Why is the daughter a burden to the father?

Here, the ‘father’ is Chubukov. The ‘daughter’ is Natalya. In a conservative society a girl-child is often considered a responsibility. Chubukov troubled with the duty of finding a groom for his grown up daughter, Wants Natalya, to get married anyhow. He desperately wants to get rid of the burden of being the father of a twenty-five-year old unmarried daughter. Moreover, Natalya’s whimsical behaviour makes Chubukov confuse, Chubukov fails to grasp the situation, when Natalya’s attitude towards Lomov changes suddenly, after he storms of the house. Therefore, all  these issues combined together have made Natalya a burden to Chubukov.
