“Do you see any animals?” –  who asked this and to whom ?  what was the reply? how could the person give the answer?

the God who boarded the train at Rohana Ask this question to the blind narrator.

 in reply to this question the narrator said  no because he was pretty sure That there were hurdly any animals Left in the forest near Dehra.

The narrator wanted to hide the faced that he was blind. When asked by the girl whether he could see any animals outside, the narrator who was making a pretence of studying the landscape answered confidently that he could not see any animals out side. He could reply thus as he was very familiar with the surrounding areas of Dehera.
