Hello friends today we are discuss this question, the question is -“A soldier, very young, lies open-mouthed,” -Who is the ‘soldier’ referred to here? Narrate in your own words how the soldier lies in the valley.
The ‘soldier’ referred to here is a youth who seems to be asleep ‘at peace’ in the beautiful valley, in Rimbaud’s poem ‘Asleep in the Valley
The young soldier lies in the dense bushes of the sunlit, green valley with his mouth open and his head placed on a pillow made of fern. His face looks pale against the brightness of the sun. His feet are among the wild flowers of the small valley. There is a smile of an innocent child on his lips. He sleeps undisturbed by the buzzing insects, even in broad daylight with one of his hands on his chest. But the discovery of two bullet wounds on his side, reveals that the soldier is a victim of war. The brutal violence of warfare destroys the serene beauty of Nature.
